Gathering Together to Build Community Across State Lines
The Minnesota Council for the Social Studies received a grant from the Midwest Teaching with Primary Sources regional office, a Library of Congress affiliate, to convene a three-day summit of educators from all 17 states within the Midwest region. The goals of the Primary Source Summit were:
- Gather representatives of the social studies councils in the 17 states belonging to the TPS Midwest Region for a three-day summit in St. Paul, Minnesota
- Share current successes and challenges facing social studies instruction and the social studies councils in the 17 states
- Expand knowledge and use of Library of Congress resources in all 17 states
- Develop the framework for a primary-source-based professional development opportunity that can be disseminated in each council’s home state
- Build relationships between the 17 councils to sustain communication regarding social studies and primary sources
